Twenty volunteers from Penna Powers participated in the UWSL Day of Caring at East Midvale Elementary on September 11, 2026. The volunteers worked to create beautiful spaces throughout the school by assisting with time-consuming tasks such as assembling cabinets.
In the school's community garden, volunteers installed pavers around plants to protect them from foot traffic. They also worked on weeding and thinning existing garden beds used by teachers for lessons.
Other volunteers worked in the gym and hallways to hang acoustic felt pads in color blocks, which were intended to dim sounds while adding color and aesthetics.
Additionally, volunteers worked in the faculty patio space to finish decorating the area, providing teachers with a peaceful space for lunch and breaks during cooler weather.
