A federal grand jury in Salt Lake City has indicted the mother of 3-month-old twins following an incident last month where the infants were airlifted from a hospital in Blanding to Primary Children’s Hospital. Fayette Whitehorse, 27, of Aneth, faces charges related to the injuries sustained by the infants, who were born in May 2026.
According to a news release from the Department of Justice, District of Utah, the parents sought medical attention after one of the babies exhibited a limp arm and cried out in pain. Medical providers diagnosed the infant with a broken humerus, a fractured rib, and a fractured knee. Following these findings, medical providers screened the twin brother, whose CT scan revealed a significant brain hemorrhage, a fractured radius bone, and fractures in different stages of healing on three ribs.
Whitehorse, who was the full-time caregiver for the babies, has been charged with two counts of aggravated child abuse while within Indian Country. The investigation was conducted by the FBI Salt Lake City Field Office, Monticello Resident Agency.
A jury trial is scheduled for Nov. 10, 2026, at the Orrin G. Hatch United States Courthouse in downtown Salt Lake City. United States Attorney Melissa Holyoak announced the indictment. Assistant United States Attorneys Tanner Zumwalt and Sam Pead are prosecuting the case. An indictment is an allegation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
