Millcreek is set to implement significant improvements to the travel experience along 500 East between 3900 South and 4500 South. According to a notice on the city's website, the upgrades are designed to enhance safety and accessibility for all road users in the area.
The project includes several key components aimed at improving local infrastructure. Key elements involve optimizing the drop-off and pick-up circulation for James E. Moss Elementary School and improving the existing crosswalk to increase pedestrian safety.
Additional improvements include reconstructing accessibility ramps to meet updated ADA standards and adding a dedicated bike lane to promote safe active transportation. The roadway's lifespan will also be extended through the use of a microsurface slurry treatment.
Construction was scheduled to start as early as Monday, July 6, with the goal of completing work before the start of the school season in mid-August 2026.
