Utah cities and counties are hosting a massive array of local events to commemorate the 2/50th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The statewide celebration includes a large-scale military flyover, patriotic light displays at the State Capitol, and community-specific festivities ranging from drone shows to parades.
Statewide Aerial Displays
The America250 Utah program announced that the 250th anniversary marks a once-in-a-generation milestone for the state. To celebrate, the U.S. Air Force Reserve's 419th Fighter Wing and the Utah Air National Guard's 151st Wing scheduled a massive flight route for July 4. Between approximately 8:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., the display of American airpower was designed to reach numerous Utah communities that submitted formal flyover requests.
Salt Lake City Signature Events
In Salt Lake City, signature events were organized to highlight the historic moment. The Utah State Capitol, in partnership with the Capitol Preservation Board, was scheduled to be lit in a red, white, and blue patriotic theme from 9:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. between July 3 and July 5. Additionally, the Utah Symphony and Opera partnered with America250 Utah for a free concert series on July 3 to celebrate American composers and Utah's heritage.
Local Municipal Celebrations
Local municipalities have organized their own themed celebrations. The City of Blanding scheduled its 2026 celebration for Saturday, July 4, under the theme "Made In America." Meanwhile, Salt Lake City hosted an America250 Drone Show on July 3.
Regional County Festivities
Various counties across the state are hosting multi-day festivals and community gatherings. In Grand County, the Moab area hosted the Grand County Fair and 4th of July Celebration from July 2 through July 4. Other regional highlights include the Dutch John Freedom Festival in Daggett County on July 4, the Thanksgiving Point Freedom Festival in Lehi on July 4, and the Manti 4th of July Celebration held on July 3 and July 4.
Sponsorship and National Presence
The anniversary programming is supported by several founding sponsors, including the Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Foundation, Zions Bank, and Intermountain Health. Beyond Utah, a Utah pavilion was part of the Great American Fair in Washington D.C., running from June 25 to July 10, featuring exhibits designed to showcase the state's unique landscapes.
Scope of Participation
The scale of the anniversary is reflected in the high number of participating communities, with Utah County leading at 29 scheduled events, followed by Davis County with 26, and Salt Lake County with 18. Other notable local programs included the White City Car Parade and Park on July 11 and the Road to Liberty Art Show in Riverton, which ran from June 8 through September 11.
