Secretary Rubio has paused all U.S. foreign assistance funded by or through the State Department and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) for review. This move is consistent with President Trump’s Executive Order on Reevaluating and Realigning United States Foreign Aid.
The Secretary is initiating a review of all foreign assistance programs to ensure they are efficient and align with U.S. foreign policy under the America First agenda.
President Trump stated that the United States will no longer provide money without a return for the American people. The review and realignment of foreign assistance is described as a moral imperative to protect the interests of taxpayers.
According to the Department, the goal is to refocus on American national interests. The State Department and USAID are acting as stewards of taxpayer dollars through the implementation of this Executive Order.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that every dollar spent, program funded, and policy pursued must be justified by whether it makes America safer, stronger, or more prosperous.
