Secondary water users are being reminded that pressure irrigation mainlines will begin draining for the season starting September 15, 2026, according to a September 7 statement. This earlier-than-normal shutoff is due to a smaller-than-normal snowpack and runoff, combined with a very hot and dry summer.
The early shutoff is intended to help preserve available water for next year, especially because the amount of snowpack the area will receive this coming winter is unknown. Many secondary water providers throughout the region are implementing similar early shutoff dates as water supplies remain limited.
Once the mainlines begin draining, residents are advised to drain their individual irrigation systems promptly to help prevent frost damage. Residents should leave individual shut-off valves in the open position to allow the system to drain properly.
