More than 20 Alpine families are strengthening their connection to their children’s education through Involúcrate, a family engagement program at Frontier Middle School. Held on the first Wednesday of each month throughout the school year, the program assists families who are new to the country in learning how to navigate school systems, access community resources, and support student success.
Rewards for program completion
Families who complete the program earn a computer to provide tools for staying connected to their child’s education long after classes end.
Program features and curriculum
Now in its third year, Involúcrate provides technology training, school resource navigation, English-learning opportunities, and workshops. Topics include attendance, academic progress, WIDA testing, district programs, scholarships, internet safety, and community resources.
Meta grant and core mission
The program is supported by a $10,000 grant from Meta, which has helped expand access to technology and family engagement opportunities. According to Community Outreach Liaison Saady Palacios, the most important foundational skill for families to gain is confidence in supporting their children’s education so they are better able to advocate for their students.
Participant experiences and benefits
Participants have reported feeling more connected and confident. Soyilita Balleza stated that the information regarding attendance, testing, and student opportunities helps her guide her child toward a successful future. Erika Madrid noted that learning to use school technology tools, such as navigating the school website and Skyward to check grades and email teachers, was one of the program's most valuable benefits.
Long-term educational impacts
The impact of Involúcrate extends beyond the classroom. Guadalupe Vasquez shared that the program helped her learn about educational opportunities such as MTECH, UVU concurrent enrollment, and scholarships. Through these classes, she learned enough to help her students succeed, learned English at her children's school, and earned her license.
Strengthening home and school bonds
Class facilitator Lucia Morales observed that when parents and children use digital tools together, it strengthens communication and teamwork within the family. Saady Palacios stated that Involúcrate is about building connections, trust, and opportunity by creating stronger partnerships between home and school.
