Bode Sparrow set a Utah high school state record for career touchdown receptions on Thursday, Oct. 8, 2026, during a Davis High victory over Layton. The Darts defeated the Lancers 49-13 in Kaysville, capturing at least a share of the Region 1 championship.
Sparrow recorded 59 career receiving touchdowns during the game, breaking the previous state record of 58 held by former Orem High player and current Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua. Sparrow finished the night with 10 catches for 138 yards and three touchdowns, including a 10-yard score in the fourth quarter on a slant pass from quarterback Paden Toula.
Toula completed 24 of 32 passes for 271 yards and five touchdowns. Teammate Jaxton Itaaehau scored four touchdowns, including two 2-yard rushing scores and two receiving touchdowns from Toula.
Layton's offense saw scoring from Carter Hughes, who caught a 68-yard touchdown pass from Tillman Thomas, and Jack Anderson, who caught a touchdown late in the third quarter. Thomas finished with 260 yards on 13 of 33 passing completions. Luke Byers recorded 16 tackles for the Lancers.
The record-setting performance occurred while former Davis quarterback Tradon Bessinger, currently at Iowa, was in attendance. Sparrow noted that his record was a team effort, crediting his quarterback, offensive line, and defense for the achievement.
