A Taylorsville family is seeking community support to cover funeral costs following the death of 11-year-old Joshua Hancey. Dustin Hancey, organizing on behalf of Kenneth Hancey, described the event as a tragedy that the family could not have imagined happening.
Joshua Hancey, who had special needs, was being transported to a care facility by a staff member when the incident occurred.
According to the fundraiser description, Joshua Hancey died after being left in a car with the windows rolled up on a hot summer day for several hours. The family stated that the facility did not realize he had not been brought inside until after the duration of time had passed.
Dustin Hancey stated that the child was gravely mistreated and expressed the devastation felt by the family regarding what Joshua endured in his final hours.
The GoFundMe campaign aims to raise funds to lay Joshua to rest. All donations are intended to go directly to his parents. As of the time of the report, the fundraiser had raised over $20,000.
