Intermountain Park City Hospital celebrated the opening of its new cancer center on August 20 with a ribbon cutting and public tour. The new Intermountain Health Park City Hospital Cancer Center is designed to serve up to 1,500 patients annually by providing expanded space and high-tech equipment closer to home in the Wasatch Back.
The 10,800-square-foot facility includes 18 infusion bays, which is a significant increase from the four bays used in previous years. The center also features dedicated rooms for medical oncology appointments, allowing for telehealth visits with Intermountain cancer experts located outside of the Wasatch Back.
A major addition to the facility is an advanced linear accelerator for state-of-the-art radiation treatment. Tawnya Bowles, MD, an Intermountain Health cancer surgeon and senior medical director for oncology services for Intermountain Health’s Canyon’s Region, noted that radiation treatments often require daily visits over nearly two months. Dr. Bowles stated that having radiation oncology close to home makes a significant difference for patients by avoiding long drives down the valley.
Lori Weston, president of Intermountain Park City Hospital, said the expansion is a major step in meeting community needs and helping residents live the healthiest lives possible. The hospital has undergone several expansions since opening in 2009 to meet the rising demand for healthcare services in the region, serving areas from the Wasatch Back to the Unita Basin and into Wyoming.
