Intermountain Health Park City Hospital celebrated the opening of a new oncology center during a ribbon-cutting ceremony and public tour on Thursday, according to an August 20 statement.
The new facility aims to provide high-level oncology care to communities throughout the Wasatch Back region.
The 10,800-square-foot center is expected to serve up to 1,500 patients annually. It features 18 infusion bays, a significant increase from the four bays previously available.
In addition to infusion services, the center includes dedicated rooms for medical oncology appointments. These spaces will allow for telehealth visits with Intermountain cancer experts located outside the Wasatch Back area. A major addition to the facility is an advanced linear accelerator for state-of-the-art radiation treatments.
Tawnya Bowles, MD, a surgical oncologist at Intermountain and senior medical director of Oncology Services for the Intermountain Health Canyon region, stated that providing life-saving care near home helps alleviate the stress of the cancer journey for patients and families. Dr. Bowles noted that having radiation oncology nearby is vital because radiation treatments are daily sessions that can last nearly two months.
The new oncology center is part of several expansions at Intermountain Park City Hospital since its opening in 2009 to meet the growing needs of residents working and living in the area.
Lori Weston, president of Intermountain Park City Hospital, said the expansion is a significant step in meeting community needs and helping residents live healthier lives. The hospital serves patients from the Wasatch Back, the Uinta Basin, and Wyoming.
