Eagle Mountain City is prohibiting the discharge of personal fireworks citywide through July 25. This decision was made with approval from the state forester, in alignment with Governor Spencer Cox’s updated fireworks guidance and in consultation with the Unified Fire Authority.
The restriction comes as drought conditions remain in effect, with dry vegetation and hot summer temperatures continuing to pose a fire risk to the open space and foothills surrounding the city.
The city noted that this approach is the same one utilized ahead of Independence Day. Officials credited residents for their patience and cooperation during previous restrictions, which helped keep the city safe during a difficult summer stretch.
While personal fireworks are prohibited, there are community celebrations scheduled. On Friday, July 24, Utah County will host Fireworks at Utah Lake, with the display beginning at 10 PM over the water. The event features two barges, with the East Barge best viewed from shore and the West Barge best viewed by boat. Admission is free, though some marinas may charge for parking.
On Saturday, July 25, the city will host the annual Summer Bash and Laser Show at Cory B. Wride Memorial Park from 4 PM to 10 PM. The event includes a Farmers Market, food trucks, and a laser show from 9:30 PM to 10 PM. The laser show includes strobing lights, which may affect those with light sensitivity.
Discharging fireworks in a prohibited area is an infraction under Utah law that carries a fine of up to $1,000. Additionally, anyone who negligently, recklessly, or intentionally causes or spreads a fire is responsible for the entire cost of fighting the fire and all resulting damages.
Residents are asked to keep personal fireworks put away and to report smoke or suspicious activity immediately.
