Davis High star Bode Sparrow scored four touchdowns, including a 99-yard touchdown run, to lead the No. 5 Davis Darts to a 37-18 victory over No. 12 Farmington in a 6A first-round playoff game on Friday, Oct. 30, 2026. The win, played in drizzly conditions in Kaysville, advances the Darts to the 6A state tournament quarterfinals.
Sparrow Delivers Four Touchdowns
Sparrow, who is known as a record-setting wide receiver, transitioned to a running role for the playoff matchup because teammate Jaxton Itaaehau was unavailable. In the wildcat formation, Sparrow rushed for 159 yards and three touchdowns on the ground. His scoring efforts included a 4-yard run following a 15-play, 76-yard drive, an 18-yard run in the second quarter, and a 99-yard sprint on the next play after a kickoff returned to the 1-yard line. He added his final score on a 1-yard touchdown reception from quarterback Paden Toula with 48.5 seconds remaining in the third period.
A Growing Rivalry
The victory follows a regular-season matchup between the two rivals on Friday, Oct. 2, 2026, where Davis secured a 14-3 win. In that earlier contest, Sparrow caught two touchdown passes from Toula to help Davis improve to 5-3 and maintain a 2-0 record in Region 1. While the Darts relied on their defense to hold Farmington to 231 total yards during that October 2 meeting, the playoff game saw a more offensive showing from Davis, who improved to 8-3 on Friday, Oct. 30, 2026.
Adapting to Rainy Conditions
The playoff game was marked by wet weather that influenced the Darts' strategy. Davis quarterback Paden Toula noted that the team decided to rely more on the running game because the ball was wet. Sparrow said the team embraced the rainy conditions and that the ability to be multi-dimensional was a sign of a great team. Toula also credited the offensive line for his 14-yard touchdown in the second quarter, which extended the Davis lead to 18-0.
Offensive Contributions
The Darts' offensive performance was bolstered by several players. Kysen Gallegos rushed for 37 yards on seven carries, while Briggs Taylor recorded five carries for 23 yards. Toula contributed 26 rushing yards and a touchdown. The offensive line was credited by both Sparrow and Toula for providing the necessary time and holes to facilitate the scoring drives.
Farmington Struggles
Farmington, which fell to 3-5 and 1-1 in the regular season following their October 2 loss to Davis, attempted to keep pace in the playoffs. Despite the loss, Farmington's quarterback Alton Dahl completed 12 of 20 passes. In the regular-season matchup, Farmington's only score came from a 35-yard field goal by Owen Morris, but they were unable to replicate similar success in the 37-18 playoff defeat.
Advancing to Quarterfinals
The Davis victory marks a significant milestone for the program as they move into the 6A state tournament quarterfinals. The win highlights the versatility of senior Bode Sparrow, who has transitioned from a record-setting receiver to a productive running back during the postseason.
