Fremont High quarterback Calvin Cooper recorded five touchdown passes and one rushing touchdown on Friday, Oct. 30, 2026, to lead the No. 8 Silverwolves past No. 9 West Field 43-23. The postseason rematch in Plain City secured a first-round playoff victory for the Fremont (7-4) offense.
The Silverwolves built a 22-0 lead in the first half, despite an early failed field goal attempt by Daxton Shupe due to a bad snap. West Field's Easton Eilertson scored a 13-yard touchdown pass to Kolb Abbott before the halftime break.
West Field mounted a comeback in the third quarter after a halftime speech from coach Eric Jones. Following a 90-yard kickoff return touchdown by Andrew Combe, the Longhorns narrowed the deficit to six points before the end of the third quarter. However, a critical interception by Fremont safety Noah Doutre near the 10-yard line shifted momentum back to the Silverwolves.
Fremont coach Nate Tuatagaloa noted that the team prepared extensively for the matchup against the Longhorns, marking only the third all-time meeting between the schools. Tuatagaloa credited Cooper's preparation for his performance, particularly his ability to run the ball effectively.
West Field coach Eric Jones remarked on the decision of his graduating seniors to join the West Field program in 2024 rather than established programs like Fremont or Roy. Jones expressed appreciation for the class's commitment to building the program despite facing difficult challenges.
The victory allows Fremont to advance to the 5A quarterfinals, where they are scheduled to face the unbeaten No. 1 West High (11-0). That game is slated for Friday, Nov. 6, at Gean Plaga Stadium in Salt Lake City.
Fremont remains the lone Region 5 representative remaining in the state playoffs heading into the next round.
