Hank Hughes scored an overtime goal on October 22 to secure the Park City Outliers' first sudden-death victory. The Outliers defeated the Casper Warbirds 4-3 at the Black Rock Mountain Event Center.
The rookie's overtime goal arrived after more than 40 minutes without a goal following a hectic first period. The Outliers opened the game with two goals within the first three and a half minutes, with Jonathan Lee scoring 22 seconds into the contest and Alex Small scoring a powerplay goal just over three minutes later.
Casper responded with three goals before the end of the first period. Chris Lundie evened the score 14 seconds into the middle period. Hughes noted that the game was moving quickly and he was simply trying to get through the game when he was called to the ice for the winning play.
The overtime marker keeps the 17-year-old's points streak alive across all eight games in which he has appeared and extended the Outliers' winning streak to five contests.
The Outliers are scheduled to play the Oilers in Vernal at 8 p.m. on Saturday, October 24. They will return home to rematch with the Warbirds on Sunday, October 25, with puck drop set for 5:05 p.m. at the Black Rock Mountain Event Center.
