Superintendent Dau of the Provo City School District issued a community update to share district developments and upcoming scheduled events. The update highlighted various school successes and provided information regarding upcoming parent-teacher conferences and district meetings.
The district is preparing for several upcoming events, including Custodial Appreciation Day this Friday. Additionally, a statewide readathon is scheduled for Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 AM, an initiative being led by Utah First Lady Abby Cox.
For elementary school families, Acadience reports have been sent home in preparation for parent-teacher conferences. Elementary students will have early release from October 5 through October 9. Furthermore, Parent University for parents of kindergarten through 3rd grade students is scheduled for October 15 at 5:00 PM.
The Superintendent noted that Franklin Elementary has received compliments from the state regarding its progress and intentionality in improving student learning. District-wide data showing massive improvements is expected to be released once it is no longer embargoed on October 15.
A Student Advisory Council, consisting of eight students from Provo and Timpview High School, is currently working on a project to identify factors that increase student engagement and class relevance. The group is led by two student school board members and will present findings to the school board.
The district addressed the relocation of Timpanogos Elementary to the Dixon site during a recent all-day board meeting. A statement regarding the pathway for this relocation was provided, and a summary regarding Parent DLI Committee recommendations and next steps is expected from the communications team later this week.
Additionally, direction was provided for preschool for the 2027-28 school year and a review of draft design plans for the new elementary school on the Dixon site.
The Board of Education is scheduled to meet jointly with the Provo City Council and Mayor Judkins on Thursday, October 1, at 12:00 noon. This meeting is intended to facilitate communication and information sharing between the two governing bodies.
The district also held a Get the Scoop event at Provo High School to provide families with information regarding Career and Technical Education (CTE) opportunities, college options, Mountainland Technical College (MTECH), and AVID programming.
