Recent city updates include a temporary fireworks ban in Riverton, which was implemented due to a statewide ban issued via executive order by Governor Spencer Cox. Additionally, the Riverton City Water Department terminated a boil water order that had been in effect since May 19, 2026, for the area from 3200 W to the east border of Riverton.
In public safety, the Riverton Police Department has engaged in various activities, including assisting U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in apprehending three individuals wanted for serious violent felony charges. The department also signed a 287(g) Memorandum of Agreement to participate in a task force with ICE to strengthen public safety.
Local leadership has also been active, with Mayor Trent Staggs delivering the 2025 State of the City address and presenting the inaugural Mayor's Freedom Award to Enes Kanter Freedom in April 2023. City Councilmember Andy Pierucci was appointed to the National League of Cities' 2026 Small Cities Council.
