The city decided that discharging legal personal fireworks is permitted only within the unshaded area shown on an accompanying map, while fireworks are prohibited in all other parts of the city.
This designated area was selected so the Richfield City Fire Department can respond quickly and effectively to any fires that may occur. Officials stated this approach aims to reduce overall community fire risk and allow for faster emergency responses.
Residents were encouraged to review the provided map carefully before using legal personal fireworks. The city noted that using fireworks outside of the designated area would result in enforcement action and other penalties as provided by law.
In addition to these restrictions, Richfield City suggested that individuals consider leaving fireworks to professionals for Independence Day. For those choosing to use legal fireworks, officials advised having a water hose and a bucket of water available.
City officials also invited residents and visitors to attend the professional fireworks display on July 4th at dark. The display will be conducted by trained and certified firefighters prepared to manage potential fire hazards.
The city issued a reminder that individuals who start a fire through personal fireworks will be held financially responsible for the costs of suppressing the fire and any resulting damages. Officials noted these costs can be substantial.
