Flags across Utah are lowered in honor of two firefighters killed in a helicopter crash while battling the Widemouth 2 Fire. Governor Spencer Cox ordered all U.S. and state flags to half-staff on August 11.
The helicopter crash occurred in Richfield. Miles Elliot of Porterville, California, was the pilot of the Sikorsky Skycrane that went down. The second victim has been identified as Christopher Andersen of Iowa.
Governor Cox stated that the individuals dedicated their lives to serving others and made the ultimate sacrifice while protecting the state. He added that Utah honors the two men who came to the state's aid when it was needed most and that the state mourns with their families and loved ones.
The flags will remain at half-staff until sunset on the day of the last interment.
