The Mayor of South Jordan recently participated in a series of school visits across the public district schools as part of the City’s America250 initiative. Alongside Jordan School District Superintendent Dr. Anthony Godfrey, the Mayor visited every fifth-grade class over the past several months to discuss the nation's history and the importance of the upcoming 250th anniversary of America.
During these visits, students were presented with a special sticker mosaic activity. This activity features a unique work of art that is currently displayed at South Jordan City Hall.
The Mayor also visited Monte Vista Elementary to meet with second-, third-, fourth-, and fifth-grade students. These discussions focused on U.S. history, public service, and the various community helpers who contribute to the city.
At South Jordan Elementary, students met with 14 Olympic and Paralympic athletes who recently competed in the Milano Cortina Winter Games. Among the visiting athletes was Keisha Love, a graduate of Herriman High School.
The Mayor noted that the enthusiasm and thoughtful questions from students regarding government and community involvement provided a sense of optimism for the future. The Mayor expressed interest in hearing from parents if their fifth-graders have shared stories regarding the America250 program.
