Utah experienced diverse weather patterns on Sunday, ranging from critical fire danger in the south to snowfall in northern mountain areas.
A Red Flag Warning was in place for parts of southern and southeastern Utah. Fire danger reached critical levels in these regions because of hot temperatures, low humidity, and southwest wind gusts reaching up to 40 mph.
As a cold front moved through the southeast corner of Utah, winds were expected to decrease by Sunday night. The passing front brought extremely cold air, resulting in a dusting of snow at some northern Utah ski resorts on Sunday morning.
While the mountain snow provided a visual contrast, extreme fire conditions resulted in a tragedy near the Utah-Colorado border. Three firefighters died on Saturday during a period of extreme fire danger.
