Lehi-based Regalo Theatre Co. will open back-to-back productions of Twelve Angry Men and Twelve Angry Women on Friday, Oct. 9, in Provo. According to an Oct. 7 report, the company co-founded by Lehi husband-and-wife team Colleen and Michael Carrasco describes the twin run as a Utah first for a single theater company producing both the all-male and all-female versions of Reginald Rose's courtroom drama in the same season.
The 12-performance run is scheduled to continue through Oct. 24, featuring six performances of each show. Producer Christopher d'Argy told Lehi Free Press that while mixed-cast versions of Twelve Angry Jurors have been seen, research indicated no other show has run both versions concurrently and simultaneously.
Michael Carrasco is directing both productions. The staging is described as stripped-down, relying entirely on the actors without special effects, scene changes, or action sequences. Colleen Carrasco is handling costume design with assistance from Amy Handy, while d'Argy serves as producer.
The productions will be held at The Hive Collaborative, a black box theater and arts education center in Provo. Producer d'Argy noted that the company was pushed to the Provo venue after struggling to find an affordable local venue in Lehi. The company remains grateful to have a performance space while searching for a permanent location in Lehi.
Performance dates for Twelve Angry Men include Oct. 9, 15, 17, 19, and 23, with shows at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Twelve Angry Women is scheduled for Oct. 10, 12, 16, 22, and 24, also with 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. performances.
Regalo Theatre Co. has been active since 2022 and previously staged a production of Amadeus. D'Argy stated that staging the same story with two separate casts provides an opportunity to explore themes regarding listening, disagreement, and taking responsibility for judgments made about others.
