Meta has pledged $2.1 million in grants to the Lake Mountain School District to fund land acquisition and student learning initiatives as the district prepares to begin operations in July 2027. The agreement includes $10,000 scholarships each for the Aspen Peaks and Timpanogos school districts, a development the Lake Mountain Board of Education announced Monday, Sept. 14.
Funding Future School Sites
The $600,000 land grant will allow the district to acquire approximately three acres of property, covering about 30% of the land required for a future K-6 elementary school site. Lake Mountain School District officials said securing property early is a strategic move to manage costs and prepare for future enrollment growth in Utah's fastest-growing communities.
Direct Student Investment
A separate $1.5 million commitment is designated for the Lake Mountain Education Foundation, with the funds expected to be delivered before Dec. 31, 2026, following a construction milestone at Meta's expanded Eagle Mountain Data Center. Meta has also pledged an ongoing annual contribution of $50,000 to the foundation.
According to the district, the foundation resources will support student learning experiences, specifically targeting early childhood literacy. Superintendent Vicki Carter said the investment aligns with the district's focus on building strong foundations for learning and expanding partnerships to help students succeed.
Regional Scholarship Impact
The scholarship provisions for neighboring districts were part of negotiations conducted by the Lake Mountain Board of Education during its transition from the Alpine School District. Board President Julie King stated that supporting students should not stop at district boundaries and noted that the success of each district strengthens the entire region.
Eagle Mountain Expansion
The investment comes as Meta expands its Eagle Mountain Data Center campus, a project expected to support roughly 1,200 construction jobs at peak activity and more than 300 permanent roles. Meta's total capital investment in Utah has now exceeded $3 billion.
Eagle Mountain Mayor Jared Gray said Meta has provided real investment in local schools, roads, and water systems since arriving eight years ago. Meta Community Engagement Manager David Williams added that securing land at current prices helps stretch district dollars and keeps costs lower for local families.
District Operations
Lake Mountain School District is scheduled to begin operations on July 1, 2027. The district will serve Cedar Fort, Eagle Mountain, Fairfield, and Saratoga Springs, with a projected enrollment of more than 26,000 students and approximately 3,000 employees.
District Transition Details
The district is currently preparing for a significant restructuring. On July 1, 2027, the Alpine School District will split into three new entities: Aspen Peaks, Lake Mountain, and Timpanogos, following the approval of Proposition 11 by Utah County voters in 2024.
