Rising U.S. alpine ski racer Lauren Macument is recovering from a knee injury sustained at Copper Mountain this past November, an injury that has sidelined her for the season and prevented her participation in the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games.
While she had hoped to compete on the Olimpia delle Tofane course in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Macuga will instead watch the games from her hometown. During a recent interview at the USANA Center of Excellence, Macuga shared that after two months of rehabilitation, her focus has shifted toward strength and conditioning routines.
Macuga's 2024-25 season included significant achievements, such as winning her first World Cup super G at St. Anton and earning third place in a downhill event at Kvitfjell.
Describing the moment of her injury, Macuga stated that during a fall, she felt her bones shift, which led to the realization that something was wrong.
A native of Park City, Macuga comes from a multi-sport skiing family. Her sister Alli competes as a moguls skier on the national freestyle team, her sister Sam is part of the national ski jumping team, and her brother Daniel is also pursuing a path in alpine ski racing.
In addition to her athletic pursuits, Macuga serves as an ambassador for the local Youth Sports Alliance. Her recent interview at the USANA Center of Excellence also touched on the mentorship she has received from Olympic champion Lindsey Vonn.
