Utah County launched the 250 Sleeping Mats community donation campaign on August 10, 2026, as part of the America 250 celebration. The initiative aims to provide 250 new sleeping mats for the Utah County Warming Center before the facility opens on November 1.
Community members can contribute by purchasing a sleeping mat through Utah County’s Amazon Wish List, which ships directly to the facility for use during the warming center season.
Last winter, the Utah County Warming Center provided thousands of safe overnight stays for individuals experiencing homelessness, offering shelter from dangerous winter temperatures and connecting guests with support services. Sleeping mats are considered an essential component for creating a safe and dignified environment for those seeking refuge.
Utah County Commission Chair Skyler Beltran stated that the donation campaign is a meaningful way for residents to help the warming center and the people it serves. Beltran noted that the warming center program continues to improve each year as progress is made in reducing the number of community members experiencing homelessness. Beltran added that the campaign offers an opportunity to demonstrate a spirit of service and compassion as the nation commemorates America's 250th anniversary.
Heather Hogue, Program Manager for Mountainland Continuum of Care, said that ensuring a safe and warm place for vulnerable community members is a top priority and that the sleeping mats are a tremendous help. Hogue noted that every donation directly supports individuals seeking shelter this winter.
Organizers hope to reach the goal of 250 mats before the warming center opens on November 1. Residents are encouraged to donate early and share the campaign with family, friends, businesses, and community organizations.
