The National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum unveiled an officially licensed, limited-edition bobblehead of BYU mascot Cosmo the Cougar riding in the Cosmobile on October 23, 2026. The release follows a historic victory for the BYU Cougars over No. 2-ranked Notre Dame, a win that moved the team to the No. 2 spot in the AP Top 25 Rankings and the No. 3 spot in the AFCA Coaches Poll.
Limited Edition Collectible Details
The new collectible features the BYU mascot wearing a blue No. 00 football jersey with his name on the back. Cosmo is depicted riding in the Cosmobile, a custom-equipped transport van adorned with BYU logos and blue stripes. According to the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum, the bobblehead is 8 inches tall and each unit will be individually numbered to 2,026.
Phil Sklar, co-founder and CEO of the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum, said the unveiling of the unique bobblehead comes after the Cougars' significant momentum in the 2026 football season. Sklar noted that the Cosmobile has been a staple on the BYU campus for a quarter century and suggested the bobblehead is a must-have for supporters and collectors of the Cougar mascot.
Availability and Previous Releases
The bobblehead is currently available for pre-order at a price of $40, plus an $8 flat-rate shipping charge per order. The National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum expects the items to ship in April 2027.
This release follows several previous Cosmo the Cougar bobblehead releases, which include a Cosmo Football Jersey version, Cosmo Basketball Jersey versions available in blue and white, a Cosmo Graduation version, a Cosmo Push-Up Counter version, a Cosmo Football Top 25 Ranking Tracker version, and a BYU vs. Utah Football Rivalry version.
The History of the Cosmobile
The Cosmobile, featured in the new bobblehead, serves as a mobile stage and billboard for BYU athletics. Originally introduced in the early 2000s and updated through several iterations, the custom van is equipped with a 1,600-watt, 12-speaker stereo system, a dance stage on top, a basketball hoop, specialty lights, a fog machine, several sirens, and a cordless public address system.
The vehicle carries Team Cosmo to between 450 and 500 annual public functions, including campus events, parades, school assemblies, and community outreach visits. Cosmo has been a prominent figure for the university for decades, making his first appearance in front of BYU fans on October 15, 1953, when he flew into LaVell Edwards Stadium via parachute.
Mascot Legacy and Team Status
The name Cosmo was selected because BYU had recently been designated as a cosmopolitan school. Since his debut, the mascot has become known as one of the most athletic mascots in college sports, performing various stunts and acrobatics. In 2020, Cosmo was named the National Champion of Mascots after winning the Sirius XM Bracket Championship.
As the Cougars continue their successful 2026 football season, the team remains one of only six unbeaten teams in the College Football FBS. Following their recent win over Notre Dame, the Cougars are scheduled to travel to Orlando to compete against UCF at 1:30 p.m. MDT.
