Alpine has announced several upcoming community initiatives, including service opportunities and educational meetings, according to a report published August 27.
The 9.11 National Day of Service is scheduled for September 12, 2026. Residents can participate in city-based projects and hands-on service stations located across Alpine, Cedar Hills, Highland, and Pleasant Grove. The final 2026 Water Education meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 16 at 7:00 p.m. at Alpine City Hall. Ben Abbott, Ph.D., an Associate Professor in the Department of Plant and Wildlife Sciences at Brigham Young University and Executive Director of Grow the Flow, is scheduled to speak on how people impact the health of the Great Salt Lake. The meeting will also review Alpine's 2026 conservation progress regarding water use, leak reduction, and code enforcement, while discussing potential 2027 measures such as watering schedules and water rates.
A free shredding and eWaste recycling event is scheduled for September 19 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at City Hall. Accepted electronics include cell phones, computers, laptops, keyboards, tablets, MP3 players, hard drives, printers, stereos, fax machines, CD and DVD players, and flat screen TVs. Batteries, light bulbs, and CRT TVs are not accepted. For paper recycling, residents should remove paper from 3-ring binders and remove metal binder clips, though staples and paper clips are acceptable. There is a limit of three boxes per household.
