Containment of the Wild Goose Fire reached 71 percent Wednesday, according to an InciWeb update, as fire crews continue work on a blaze that has burned more than 12,600 acres east of Holden.
Evacuation Status Changes
The Millard County Sheriff's Office announced Wednesday that evacuation zones for the fire have been adjusted. Specifically, the Maple Grove West area was moved to a ready status, according to a post from the sheriff's office.
Fire Origin and Size
The Wild Goose Fire began on June 26, 2026, just south of Wild Goose Canyon within the Fishlake National Forest. InciWeb reports indicate the fire was caused by lightning and has burned approximately 12,665 acres.
Extreme Fire Behavior
The fire is burning in steep terrain with continuous heavy dead and down fuels, including standing timber. Officials noted that fuels are exceptionally dry for this time of year, contributing to extreme fire behavior and a probability of ignition between 80 and 100 percent.
Incident Management
The Great Basin Complex Incident Management Team 7 assumed command of the fire on Sunday, June 28, 2026. As of July 8, a total of 591 personnel were assigned to the incident.
Forest Closures
The U.S. Forest Service previously issued a closure order for the Fillmore Ranger District of the Fishlake National Forest on June 27, 2006, to ensure public safety due to the fire's activity.
