Residents across Kane County received an unexpected visit from a portrayal of Benjamin Franklin on July 4. Local resident Nicholas Meyeres spent more than 12 hours traveling through the county to share stories about the nation's founding and encourage historical engagement, particularly among children.
During the tour, Meyeres delivered presentations tailored to each audience. In Kanab, families gathered under a green tent at the former Kanab Elementary School for a hands-on electricity demonstration inspired by Franklin's scientific experiments.
As the tour moved from community to community, visitors had the opportunity to sign a copy of the Declaration of Independence. The traveling document collected hundreds of signatures throughout the day.
Meyeres stated that the Independence Day tour was intended as a way to give back to the community and make American history more engaging for local families.
Following the event, Meyeres expressed gratitude on social media, stating that being part of the community for most of his adult life has been a blessing. By the end of the day, the portrayal had made appearances in nearly every community in Kane County.
