Juab County was formed in 1852, originally encompassing portions of what is now Nevada. The county size was reduced in 1854 and 1856 as part of various changes that occurred before current borders were established.
Early Mormon agricultural settlement
Early settlement in the area began in 1851 when Mormon pioneers settled Nephi and relied primarily on agriculture for their livelihoods.
Discovery of precious metals
The discovery of silver, gold, copper, and other precious metals in the Tintic region in 1869 led to the emergence of several mining towns, including Eureka, Silver City, and Diamond.
Mining district peak and decline
By 1899, the area was regarded as one of the richest mining districts in the nation. Mining operations continued into the mid-1900s before scaling down throughout the remainder of the century.
Modern recreational opportunities
The historic Tintic Mining District, Eureka City, and surrounding desert and mountain areas provide various activities such as hiking, camping, fishing, and rockhounding. Visitors can also access the Tintic Mining Museum or utilize local ATV trails and sand dunes.
