His leadership extended into local government, where he served as the Mayor of Escalante from 1990 to 1994. In addition to his political service, Griffin held significant religious roles, including serving as the Bishop of the Escalante 2nd Ward from 1993 to 1998. He also served an LDS mission in Columbus, Ohio, alongside his wife, Joyce.

Griffin was a key figure in the development of local heritage. He worked alongside his childhood friend, Jerry Roundy, to help create the Escalante Heritage Center. Roundy, who died in 2018, was also a dedicated community member involved in civic functions and the Escalante Heritage Center.

A viewing will take place prior to the service from 10:30 to 11:30 AM, with burial to follow in the Escalante Cemetery. The family expressed gratitude to Hospice for Utah for the care provided during his final days.
