ProvoREADS is celebrating the unique milestones and individual progress of young readers throughout October, according to a report published October 7. The initiative focuses on building confidence in children as they navigate their own reading paths.
The October Family Reading Challenge encourages families to spend time reading together by using various methods, such as reading aloud, taking turns, or having children tell stories through pictures. To support these efforts, the program suggests using conversation starters before, during, and after reading to engage children with the text.
Families can also participate in the ProvoREADS Family Literacy Night, a Parent University event designed for families with children in PreK through 3rd grade. The event is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 15, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Shoreline Middle School.
The literacy night at Shoreline Middle School will feature literacy activities and practical ideas for reading at home. Attendees will also be provided with a complimentary family dinner and a free book for every child.
