In a report published August 18, it was announced that the Lehi boys golf team secured second place in the first Region 3 tournament held on Monday, Aug. 17. The event took place at the Mountain Dell Canyon Course in Parley’s Canyon east of Salt Lake City.
The Knights won the tournament with a score of 282. Lehi followed closely with a 287, while Corner Canyon finished with 290. American Fork recorded a 302, narrowly beating Skyridge, which tallied 303.
Individual winner Blake Brown from Lone Peak shot a 68. Three golfers finished two strokes behind with a 70, including Pioneer sophomores Jordan Ofahengaue and Simon Caceres, and Corner Canyon junior Drew Wilson. Lehi's counted scores also included Adi Notoa with a 72 and Crue Harward with a 75.
Other varsity players for the Pioneers included Owen Combs, Brodyn Pace, Krew McMillen, and Zane Haehl. In the JV tournament, Jack Nelson posted a team-best score of 76.
Coach Johnny Revill stated that the team was proud to grab second place in their first Region 3 match of the year, specifically noting the under-par rounds from Simon and Jordan and Adi's even par. He added that the team was motivated to work harder for next week's match after leaving some shots out.
Last year's 6A state tournament saw Corner Canyon win the championship, with Lone Peak in second, American Fork in fifth, and Lehi in ninth. While there was a 53-point difference between the champions and the Pioneers in that event, the graduation rates for the teams differed significantly between the two years.
