Real Salt Lake suffered a 2-1 defeat against Houston on Wednesday night, according to a September 9 report, conceding a late goal that ended a three-game winning streak against the Dynamo at Shell Energy Stadium.
The loss extends the club's MLS winless streak to 10 games, a drought dating back to May 23 that ties for the fourth-longest in club history. The result also extends an 11-match road winless run across all competitions that began on March 7 in Atlanta.
In the 57th minute, Houston's Guilherme opened the scoring with a left-footed shot from outside the box. Real Salt Lake responded in the 76th minute when Saba Lobjanidze scored his second goal in two games, assisted by Lineker Rodrigues, to equalize at 1-1.
However, Houston secured the victory in the 87th minute when Mateusz Bogusz scored on a left-footed strike from an acute angle. Despite the loss, RSL saw impactful performances from substitutes, including Lobjanidze and Rodrigues, and the MLS debut of Academy product Owen Anderson in the 90th minute.
The match was marked by significant roster challenges for Real Salt Lake, which had 13 players unavailable at kickoff. During the game, defender Lukas Engel left with a lower-body injury just before halftime and was replaced by Philip Quinton.
Head Coach Pablo Mastroeni made five personnel changes to the starting lineup from the club's previous match against LAFC. Newcomers Colin Guske and Jason Shokalook both earned their first career starts during the contest.
Real Salt Lake returns to the Wasatch Front for a home match against New York City FC on Saturday, Sept. 12, at America First Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. MT.
