The Salt Lake City Public Lands Department has announced a restoration project for the Fire Station No. 7 Tennis Park located on 300 North. The project will fund the construction of four pickleball courts and various amenities at the site, which is situated west of 1000 West.
The decision to transition from tennis to pickleball follows an assessment of community needs. The project will replace two existing tennis courts that are in need of repairs with the new pickleball layout. This change is designed to allow the neighboring community garden to expand.
In addition to the courts, the project includes the installation of court lighting, drinking fountains, and ADA access improvements. Public Lands is currently funding the design phase of the courts, which is scheduled for completion in 2026.
The development aims to address specific needs on the city's Westside by providing more dedicated pickleball opportunities and reducing the need for residents to travel to the east side for recreation. The addition of lighting and ADA accessibility is also expected to increase safety and park enjoyment.
This project follows a 2022 survey regarding the Poplar Grove Sportcourts, which received 304 submissions. Results from that survey indicated strong community support for more pickleball courts and requests for installed lighting to improve safety.
