Utah State soccer earned an in-state road victory Monday night, recording its second consecutive shutout win with a 1-0 victory over Utah Valley at UCCU Stadium in Orem, according to an August 24 report.
The Aggies broke the scoreless tie in the 35th minute when junior forward Ellie Hendrix scored a left-footed shot from 25 yards out. The goal followed a sequence involving sophomore defender Victoria Espinoza, who made a takeaway, and sophomore forward Samantha Sellers, who provided the pass from midfield.
During the first half, Utah State recorded eight shots, all of which were on frame, while Utah Valley had four shots with none on goal.
In the second half, Utah Valley increased pressure, totaling nine shots with five on frame. A critical moment occurred in the 74th minute when an Aggie defender was called for a handball in the box, resulting in a penalty kick for the Wolverines. Sophomore goalkeeper Ivy Nystrom saved the penalty kick and finished the match with five saves to secure the win.
Utah State (2-1-1, 0-0-0 Pac-12) is scheduled to play Utah in Salt Lake City on Thursday, Aug. 27, at 7 p.m.
