The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City issued a Tornado Warning for east central Tooele County in northern Utah. The warning was issued following radar-indicated rotation from a severe thunderstorm.
At 5:55 PM MDT on Aug. 13, 2026, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located 7 miles southwest of the Tooele Army Depot, or 11 miles south of Grantsville. The storm was moving east at 50 mph.
Other locations impacted by the tornadic thunderstorm included Rush Valley, Stockton, and Erda. The storm was expected to be near Tooele and the Tooele Army Depot around 6:00 PM MDT.
Officials warned that flying debris would be dangerous to those without shelter. Potential impacts included damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles, as well as damage to mobile homes and trees.
The National Weather Service advised individuals to take cover immediately by moving to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building and avoiding windows. Those outdoors, in a vehicle, or in a mobile home were advised to move to the closest substantial shelter to protect themselves from flying debris.
The radar-indicated rotation was valid until 6:30 PM MDT on Aug. 13, 2026.
