Big-D Construction has secured several major industry honors and leadership expansions, recently earning five ABC Utah Excellence in Construction Awards for its 2025 projects and being named a Top Workplace by The Salt Lake Tribune for the sixth time.
Award-winning 2025 project portfolio
The construction firm's 2025 project portfolio earned significant recognition from ABC Utah. According to a company announcement, five specific projects and its safety crew received Excellence in Construction Awards. The winning projects include the Delta Air Lines Flight Operations Center in Salt Lake City, which serves as a 49,913 square foot training facility featuring full motion simulators and heated concrete slabs. Other award winners include the Salt Lake City School District Administrative Building, a 172,701 square foot headquarters that utilized rooftop solar and dynamic glass; the Layton Ambulatory Surgical Center, an outpatient facility that achieved over $700,000 in value engineering savings; Copper Crossing 7, a 159,600 square foot industrial warehouse in West Jordan; and the Box Elder Public Safety Building in Brigham City.
Safety awards and culture focus
In addition to these project-specific honors, Big-D was awarded the ABC STEP Award at the Silver Level and the Utah Labor Commission Workplace Safety Award. The company's safety culture was also a focus during May 2025, when teams participated in National Safety Stand Down Month to emphasize fall prevention, a leading cause of death in the industry.
Recognition as a Top Workplace
The company's commitment to workplace culture was highlighted by its recent recognition as a Top Workplace by The Salt Lake Tribune. This marks the sixth time the firm has received this distinction and the fifth consecutive year. The award is based on quantitative employee feedback collected through the Energage Workplace Survey, which includes 152 companies in the annual list.
CEO comments on company culture
CEO Cory Moore stated that the recognition reflects the strength of the company's culture and the dedication of its people. This focus on culture extends to the company's recent certification as a Business of Kindness through a partnership with One Kind Act a Day. During a proclamation signing ceremony, Moore reaffirmed the organization's dedication to making kindness a cornerstone of their workplace and industry interactions.
Leadership promotions and regional expansion
Big-D has also seen significant movement in its regional leadership and infrastructure. In March 2025, the company announced the promotion of Trevor Hunsaker to President of the Lindon Business Unit, which oversees operations in both Lindon and Idaho Falls. The Lindon group, which includes the Idaho Falls office, was on track to reach nearly $300 million in revenue for 2025.
Simultaneously, the company has strengthened its presence in the Southwest. In November 20rypt 2024, Bryan Dunn joined as Senior Vice President of Big-D Construction Southwest. His appointment followed a period of growth for the Tempe, Arizona, office, which won the 2025 Tempe Chamber of Commerce Large Business Excellence Award. Additionally, Grady Lonigan was hired in March 2025 as the Vice President of Self-Perform, bringing over two decades of concrete construction expertise to the company's operations.
Major infrastructure developments continue to define the firm's recent work, particularly at the Salt Lake City International Airport. The company and its partner, Holder Construction (HDJV), celebrated the grand opening of Phase 3 of the airport redevelopment. This phase features the Central Tunnel, a connector between Concourses A and B that includes 'The River Tunnel' art installation by Gordon Huether.
Other notable features of the Phase 3 project include a life-sized replica of the Allosaurus, Utah's state fossil, and the restoration of a historic world map from the original airport terminal. The project was also recognized with a 2024 Most Outstanding Projects award from Utah Construction & Design, alongside the Post District Mixed-Use Development.
Beyond large-scale construction and corporate expansion, the company continues to engage in community and employee events. The 2025 Big-D Companies Annual Fair hosted 1,775 guests and 250 staff members for a day of family-oriented activities, including a 5K race and local food trucks. These efforts are part of a broader strategy that includes significant charitable contributions, such as the company's recent $45,000 fundraising effort for the American Heart Association.
