The Murray City School Board held a meeting on August 7, 2026, to review several policy updates and discuss facility planning. The session included discussions on safety interventions, employee dress codes, and attendance and enrollment regulations driven by recent legislative changes.
During the meeting, the Superintendent led a discussion regarding policy PS 417.2 regarding Emergency Safety Interventions, which was updated to include new state code concerning school seclusion rooms. This policy is scheduled for a first reading at the August 13, 2026, Board meeting.
Other policies slated for a first reading on August 13, 2026, include the employee dress code policy (SP900.5), the attendance policy (PS 401), student enrollment eligibility and registration requirements (PS 403), and intra-district, non-resident, and foreign exchange student enrollment (PS 443).
According to the meeting minutes, the attendance policy is being updated to reflect provisions from the 2026 legislative session that allow teachers in grades 7-12 to base up to 10% of a student's grade on attendance. The enrollment eligibility policy is also being updated to include 2026 legislative provisions requiring school administrators to review data gateways for safe-school violations, reintegration, or threat assessments before enrolling a student.
Superintendent Covington also provided updated maps for proposed elementary and secondary boundaries for the 2027-28 school year. The Board stated these proposed boundaries will be addressed through motions at the August 13, 2026, meeting.
The meeting was held at the District office located at 5102 South Commerce Drive, Murray, UT. Attendees included Board President Kelly Taeoalii, Jill Weight, Kami Anderson, Jaren Cooper, Elizabeth Payne, Jennifer Covington, Superintendent, and Business Administrator Richard Reese.
The Board held a unanimous vote to enter a closed session to discuss personnel and legal issues. The meeting adjourned at 6:27 p.m.
