The Murray City School Board conducted a study session on March 12, 2026, to review architectural plans for Murray High School and discuss facility planning regarding potential school closures.
The meeting took place at the District office located at 5102 South Commerce Drive in Murray.
During the session, Chris Kartchner of BDK presented five different plans developed by VCBO Architects for the Murray High School Master Planning project. These proposals involve placing a Catalyst Center and a potential fieldhouse on the remaining Murray High property.
The presented designs included two plans featuring a single-story layout with eight education rooms, while three plans featured a two-story design with eight education rooms. No board action was taken regarding these plans.
Superintendent Jennifer Covington also led a discussion concerning facility planning and potential school closures. The discussion involved four maps created by Murray City staff based on the assumption that one of the following schools would close: Grant, Liberty, Longview, or Parkview. Following a lengthy discussion, no action was taken by the board.
The meeting was presided over by Board President Kelly Taeoalii and included board members Jill Weight, Jaren Cooper, Kami Anderson, and Elizabeth Payne. Business Administrator Richard Reese was also in attendance. The meeting adjourned at 7:48 p.m.
