Eight Lehi High School FCCLA students earned spots in the top 10 nationally at the FCCLA National Leadership Conference held July 6-8 in Washington, D.C., according to a August 25 report. The delegation included a second-place national finish for Lehi’s Hannah Snow.
The conference involved students from across the country competing in FCCLA STAR (Students Taking Action with Recognition) Events and participating in leadership activities related to family and consumer sciences. Lehi FCCLA advisor Angela Adams stated that the national competition allows students to present skills developed during the school year to professional judges through oral components and presentations.
Lehi students returned from the conference with eight gold medals and five top 10 national finishes. Hannah Snow earned second place nationally in Teaching Strategies. Other top finishers included:
Molly Hansen and Colby Goodrich placed seventh in Chapter in Review Display.
Brooklyn Byrd placed seventh in Say Yes to FCS.
Paige Miller and Lynnlee Lowry placed sixth in Sports Nutrition.
Bodey Trane and Mahogany Faye Smith placed 10th in Fashion Design.
Mazie Walters, an American Fork student who joined the Lehi chapter for nationals, placed seventh in Interior Design.
Other awards included silver medals for Nora Jensen, Maylee Baker, and Kierra Carpenter in Focus on Children; Brynlee McCain in Interior Design; and Liam Scott in Nutrition & Wellness. Avea Seneca earned a bronze in the Red Talks on Education online event.
The Focus on Children team, consisting of Jensen, Baker, and Carpenter, taught third-grade students about growth mindset at Snow Springs Elementary in Lehi and Northridge Elementary in Orem. Jensen noted that the experience helped build her confidence in presenting to adults and taught her the value of collaboration.
Angela Adams noted that financial support from the Alpine School District helps students manage expenses such as competition fees, flights, and hotel costs. The national conference also includes leadership workshops and opportunities to meet members from other states.
