A GoFundMe campaign organized by cafe staff has raised more than $23,450 to assist Barmore during her recovery.

The fundraiser, which was organized by Katie Tucker along with co-organizers Lisa Adamson, Brittanie Hartwell, and two others on behalf of Alana Barmore, has seen significant participation from the local community. As of July 9, 20CO6, the campaign had received donations from 206 individuals, reaching 118% of its original $20,000 goal.
Impact on Cafe Operations
The push for support began following a period of health challenges for Barmore. According to the GoFundMe campaign page, Barmore was hospitalized for nearly a full week due to being seriously ill. The illness forced the cafe to shut down operations entirely for seven days and resulted in a change to the establishment's regular operating schedule.
Staff Stepping Up During Recovery
While the cafe has resumed some services, it remains closed on Saturdays for the time being. This shift in scheduling follows a period of instability for the business owner. A February 2022 report from Utah Public Radio noted that while Barmore's illness was not related to COVID-19, her need for a stay-at-home recovery required employees to step up and manage her usual responsibilities.
Longtime Service to North Salt Lake
The cafe's 13 employees have played a central role in managing the business during Barmore's absence. Katie Tucker, one of the cafe's employees, initiated the GoFundMe page with the intention of helping Barmore in her time of need. Tucker stated that because Barmore has given so much to the community, it was now the community's turn to give back to her.

Janet’s Sunshine Cafe has been a fixture in North Salt Lake for nearly 17 years, according to reporting from Utah Public Radio in February 2022. The GoFundMe organizers noted that Barmore has served the community for over 16 years, with many residents having grown up visiting the cafe specifically for breakfast on Saturdays.

The 'Sunshine Crew' and supporters describe the cafe as a place where patrons can find good meals, community connection, and what they refer to as 'Janet wisdom.' The fundraiser organizers have encouraged friends and family to share the campaign to continue spreading awareness and support for Barmore's recovery.
