A Tooele man faces first-degree murder and domestic violence charges following a fatal shooting on August 31, 2026, according to a September 2 report. Authorities allege that Daniel Ruesga, 37, deliberately crashed his pickup truck into his girlfriend's Tesla before shooting her inside a garage on the 600 block of Kings Landing Road.
Investigators allege that Ruesga was involved in an argument with Silvia Bahena before the incident. According to the allegations, Ruesga intentionally drove his Toyota Tundra into the rear of Bahena's Tesla and then entered the garage to shoot her. Ruesga reportedly admitted to investigators that he crashed into the vehicle and shot Bahena.
Bahena was killed in the incident, and her four children were inside the home at the time of the shooting. Authorities stated the children heard the incident and later discovered their mother dead. Ruesga faces four counts of domestic violence in the presence of a child in addition to the murder charge.
Documents indicate Ruesga was a licensed real estate agent and had served as an ambassador for the Tooele Chamber of Commerce.
Court records show Ruesga had a previous conviction from June 2025 involving the destruction of property belonging to a person with whom he lived. In that case, he received a plea in abeyance and was sentenced to six months of probation along with counseling and an anger-management evaluation.
The shooting remains under investigation as authorities work to establish the full sequence of events. Ruesga is presumed innocent unless and until he is convicted in court.
