The Broad Fire in Weber Canyon is holding steady at 134 acres and is 50% contained, according to a September 8 report from Utah Fire Info.
While the fire is not growing, officials noted that significant heat remains within larger fuels on the top of the mountain and along the north and east edges.
Overnight temperatures and increased humidity provided relief, leading to decreased visible flames during the night shift. However, crews continue to encounter smoke on the mountain that increases as the day progresses.
Steep and rocky terrain is making access to the fire difficult. Crews are working deliberately to reach the fire safely, and containment is expected to progress slowly over the next few shifts as firefighters hike into the area to address hotspots.
Interstate 84 remains open in both directions, but travelers are urged to be cautious through the canyon. Firefighting equipment and personnel are parked and working directly along the highway.
