The St. George Museum of Art announced the opening of two new solo exhibitions, featuring Ben Steele and Aziza Abdieva. According to a press release from the city, the exhibitions mark the first solo museum shows for both artists.
Ben Steele's exhibition, titled 45th State of Mind, features work that applies a Utah lens to icons from art history and pop culture. Steele, a graduate of Dixie High School, has spent his career working out of a repurposed industrial building in Helper, Utah.
Aziza Abdieva's exhibition, titled Fear Alchemy, presents a site-specific body of work inspired by Utah's natural landscapes. Abdieva, who lives in Cedar City, received recognition last year at the Utah Statewide Annual Exhibition at the Southern Utah Museum of Art.
The exhibitions were scheduled to open on September 5 with an artist talk and a formal reception. The museum manager and curator, Meagan Evans, stated that the museum is proud to support a venue that provides a platform for artists and serves as a community gathering place.
The St. George Museum of Art is located at 47 East 200 North in historic downtown St. George. The facility, formerly a sugar beet seed storage facility, is part of an arts complex that includes the Opera House and Social Hall.
