Orem secured a 51-46 victory over the Santa Margarita Eagles in a high-scoring contest. While the Eagles produced 504 yards of offense and 694 all-purpose yards, the defense struggled to contain an Orem offense that recorded 278 rushing yards and 435 passing yards, including eight points from two-part conversions.
Sophomore quarterback Peter Costelli completed 23 of 38 attempts for 416 yards, throwing four touchdowns and two interceptions. Wide receiver Chase Nenad recorded 11 receptions for 220 yards and three touchdowns. Senior receiver Jake Ebach contributed five catches for 132 yards and a touchdown, while also adding 154 kickoff return yards.
Defensively, senior linebacker Martin Hartigan led the Eagles with 15 total tackles, including seven solo stops. The defensive effort included sacks by senior safety Corey Hernandez and junior defensive end Logan Schwenke, along with an interception by senior Blake Bianchini.
Orem's offense featured USC commit Puka Nacua, who finished with 16 catches for 321 yards and three touchdowns. Senior quarterback Cooper Legas provided a dual-threat performance, passing for 438 yards and rushing for 190 yards.
The Eagles enter a bye week following a challenging non-league schedule that included losses to Mission Viejo and Cherry Creek. Their next game is scheduled for Friday, September 28th, against Orange Lutheran at Orange Coast College with a 7:00pm kickoff.
