Nine Davis School District high schools recently participated in the annual Unified Soccer Tournament to build friendships across school communities. According to a notice from the district, the event brought students together to compete and cheer for one another.
Unified Sports allows students with and without intellectual disabilities to train and compete together as teammates. Athletes participated in both developmental and competitive divisions to provide opportunities for players of various abilities to contribute and celebrate together.
Throughout the tournament, athletes received encouragement and cheers regardless of the school they represented or which team scored. The event focused on creating a community atmosphere that celebrates every athlete.
For many students, the tournament provided opportunities to score goals and spend time with friends. These shared experiences are intended to create connections that extend beyond the game and foster a sense of belonging across the schools.
