Cross country runners across Utah continue their fall competitive seasons following the 2026 UIAAA Invitational, which took place on Aug. 29, 2026, at the Spanish Fork Sports Park. The sanctioned event brought together a wide array of teams and athletes for a highly competitive day of racing in Spanish Fork.
Varsity Boys 5k Results
The varsity boys 5k race at the invitational featured a large field of 213 entries representing 371 individual competitors. Tristan Smith of Cedar Valley secured the top position in the race with a time of 15:45.88, followed closely by Cooper Clark of Grantsville, who recorded a time of 15:50.41. Whittaker Bettis of Brighton took third place with a time of 15:53.43.
Further down the leaderboard, Luke Noall of Cedar Valley finished fourth with a time of 16:06.00. Michael Weber of Carbon High placed fifth, clocking in at 16:07.70. The top ten was rounded out by Elliot Johns of West Jordan, Lincoln Hallows of North Sevier, Andoni Garcia of West Jordan, Trevor Dance of Brighton, and Mathew Stromness of Carbon High.
Competitive Field Depth
The competitive depth of the invitational was evident in the middle of the pack, where several teams saw multiple runners finish within seconds of one another. Braxton Aschliman of West Field placed 11th with a time of 16:28.31, while Rylan Egbert of Grantsville finished 12th at 16:33.83. Tyrail Rasmussen of Copper Hills and Ethan Johnson of Jordan both recorded times of approximately 16:41.
In the lower rankings of the varsity 5k, the field stretched into the 26-minute range. The final recorded time for a varsity competitor was 26:26.84, achieved by Kohen Gongaware of APA West Valley. Other notable finishers included several athletes from Jordan, West Jordan, and Taylorsville, highlighting the broad geographic participation in the meet.
Participating Schools
The invitational included a diverse group of participating schools from across the region. Teams in attendance included Cedar Valley, Grantsville, Brighton, Carbon High, West Jordan, North Sevier, West Field, Copper Hills, Jordan, KANAB, Union, Bingham, Salem Hills, Spring Creek, Taylorsville, Payson, Tooele, Ben Lomond, Monticello, Ogden, Waterford, Pleasant Grove, Murray, Utah, and Merit Preparatory Academy. Additionally, schools such as Rich, Mountain Valley, Alta, Stansbury, West, Uintah, and North Summit were also represented in the entries.
Upcoming Season Schedule
Looking ahead to the remainder of the fall season, teams are preparing for their next scheduled competitions. For Park City High School, the next scheduled event is the Wahsatch Rendezvous, which is set to take place on Sept. 19, 2026, at the Big Cottonwood Regional Park, located within the Cottonwood Complex in Millcreek.
Following the Wahsatch Rendezvous, Park City is scheduled to compete in the TwiKnight Invite on Sept. 25, 2026, at Art Dy Park in American Fork.
Season Outlook
The 2026 UIAAA Invitational served as a significant milestone in the mid-season progression for Utah high school cross country programs. With the August 29 event concluded, athletes will now shift their focus to regional meets like the Wahsatch Rendezvous as they continue their pursuit of season milestones.
