Hill Air Force Base recently announced the conclusion of its sponsorship for the DoW STARBASE program. The program has been a part of the base's legacy for 15 years, having started in 2011.
Since its inception, the program has welcomed thousands of students, offering hands-on learning opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and math during periods when such opportunities were limited.
According to a Hill AFB release, STARBASE played a pivotal role in encouraging STEM interest across the region and created a lasting impact on a generation of young people. Many STEM programs in Northern Utah were inspired by the early success of STARBASE.
The decision to end sponsorship comes as changes in national program funding and the expansion of existing STEM programs create a natural moment for transition.
Concluding the program will allow Hill Air Force Base to realign resources to address the growing demands of its core national security mission. Despite the end of the STARBASE sponsorship, the base stated it remains committed to community partnership and will continue to support educational outreach.
