Murray City School District has shared information regarding the Standard Response Protocol (SRP) used to maintain school safety. The district noted that Utah has officially adopted the SRP, a safety framework developed by The "I Love U Guys" Foundation, while Murray schools have had the protocol implemented for several years.
The SRP utilizes five action-oriented directives to prevent confusion during emergency situations or routine safety drills. These directives include:
Hold, which requires staying in a room or area to keep hallways clear during events like a medical emergency.
Secure, which involves locking outside doors when there is a potential threat or hazard outside the building, allowing normal activities to continue inside.
Lockdown, which is used for active threats inside or on campus, requiring occupants to lock interior doors, turn off lights, and move out of sight.
Evacuate, which moves students and staff to a stated location due to internal safety concerns like fire or chemical spills.
Shelter, which is used for environmental hazards or severe weather to implement specific safety strategies.
The district stated that clear communication relies on shared vocabulary and updated contact details. Parents and guardians are encouraged to keep their phone numbers, email addresses, and emergency contacts current in Aspire to ensure they receive urgent alerts during incidents or drills.
